Egypt is among nine countries due to benefit from a global initiative on digital learning and skills for all, targeting marginalized children and youth and aiming to close the digital divide and drive rapid change in education systems.

The United Nations initiative focuses on three of the five priorities of the 2020 Global Education meeting Declaration: supporting teachers; investing in skills; and narrowing the digital divide.

Building on the established partnership of E9 countries allows Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Nigeria and Pakistan the opportunity to benefit from this global initiative and accelerate progress on digital learning and skills towards the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 4 – Quality Education.

The inception meeting taking place on April 6 is a Consultation of Ministers of Education. It will discuss the co-creation of the Digital Learning initiative by the nine countries. This Consultation will highlight progress, share lessons and explore opportunities for collaboration and scale-up to expand digital learning and skills. In addition, a Marketplace segment, for public-private partnership will focus on promising local and global solutions and opportunities for digital learning to strengthen local ecosystems.

The meeting will feature the participation of the UN Deputy Secretary-General, UNESCO, UNICEF, Generation Unlimited, the Malala Fund, the World Bank and a number of stakeholder representatives including from the private sector partners of the Global Education Coalition.
