Egyptian school activities and artistic works began to focus on addressing climate change issues.

With simple resources and great enthusiasm, schools’ theaters are the first place to explore children’s talents.

The Azza Zeidan Primary School Theater in Fayoum hosted nine children from Al Resala Private School in the same governorate to present a school play on the importance of water and the danger of wasting it. This was part of the summer camps program implemented through UNICEF’s Water and Environmental Sanitation Program in Minya and Fayoum schools in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education and the water companies in the two governorates.

The idea of camps that include activities and art exhibitions is to raise the health and environmental awareness of children.  This year – in conjunction with Egypt’s hosting of the Climate Summit (COP27) in November 2022 – climate change has been added as one of the main themes of activities. Other themes included hand washing, water and sanitation conservation, personal and public hygiene.

Behind the scenes, teachers talked to some of the children involved in the play about its plot and cause.
