Twenty Egyptian universities were listed on the 2022-2023 global rankings of the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) which publishes the only academic ranking of global universities that assesses the quality of education, alumni employment, quality of faculty, and research performance without relying on surveys and university data submissions.
Cairo University came at the top of the Egyptian universities placed on the list, followed by Ain Shams University, Mansoura University, Alexandria University, Assiut University, and Zagazig University.
The list also included Suez Canal University, Fayoum University, the British University in Egypt, Tanta University, Al-Azhar University, Beni Suef University, Helwan University, Menoufia University, Minia University, and Benha University.
The list also comprised Kafr El Sheikh University, Sohag University, Suez University, and the American University in Cairo.

About 19,788 institutions were ranked, and those that placed at the top made the Global 2000 list.

The CWUR uses seven objective and robust indicators grouped into four areas to rank the world’s universities, including “education” in view of the academic success of a university’s alumni, and measured by the number of a university’s alumni who have won prestigious academic distinctions relative to the university’s size (25%).

The four areas also include “employability” in view of the professional success of a university’s alumni, and measured by the number of a university’s alumni who have held top positions at major companies relative to the university’s size (25%).
They also comprise “Faculty” which is measured by the number of faculty members who have won prestigious academic distinctions (10%) as well as “research” in view of research output which is measured by the total number of research papers (10%), high-quality publications which are measured by the number of research papers appearing in top-tier journals (10%), influence that is measured by the number of research papers appearing in highly-influential journals (10%) and citations which is measured by the number of highly-cited research papers (10%).
