Sistema aims to realize carbon neutrality by 2025 within the framework of its sustainability march.

The company has set a goal of reducing freight and shipping emissions by 15% and electricity emissions by 40%. It is also aiming to offset all emissions from long haul travel by 80%, by 2021.

The company is seeking to adopt greener transport solutions by 2021.

As one of the largest manufacturing facilities in New Zealand, Sistema recognizes it has a responsibility to ensure it is producing its products in the most sustainable way possible, from the design process through to manufacturing and distribution.

The company has mulling to switch to ecotricity which is 100 renewable carboNZero certified in addition to transitioning to LED bulbs and lighting strategies.

It also plans to install solar panels to power external lighting.

The company also plans to install thermal insulation to save energy expended to keep machinery warm.

The company also works on collecting rain water for cooling machines. The company seeks to collect 52,000 square meters of rain water at its roof to be filtered and reused for cooling machines.

The company is also seeking to facilitate an onsite recycling program of old and broken products.

Sistema Plastics Ltd has committed to reducing its carbon emissions by achieving Certified Emissions Measurement And Reduction Scheme (CEMARS) certification.

CEMARS certification is a recognized greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions measurement and reduction scheme administered by Enviro-Mark Solutions – a subsidiary of Manaaki Whenua – Landcare Research.
