The Egyptian Environment Ministry launched an award for confronting climate change in Africa to enjoy greener future.
The award is meant to encourage all sectors to adopt eco-friendly mechanisms, alleviate the impact of climate change in addition to spearheading initiatives based on innovation in the fields of science and technology.
The action was meant to step up climate action and achieve sustainable development goals.
The award addresses four fields, including technologies contributing to alleviating the impact of climate change, adaptation of medium-sized and mega companies, realizing green growth of small and micro enterprises and educating youths at universities about climate change.
The winners will receive the award during activities of United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) which Egypt will host in November.
Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad underlined the ministry’s keenness on encouraging innovation and initiatives by government and civil community agencies to merge the climate change dimensions into various development sectors.
This came during the inking of a memorandum of understanding between the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency, the Industrial Modernization Center (IMC) and the Association for Sustainable Quality of Living (Estidama) to launch the award.
Fouad said Egypt as the host of COP27 seeks to achieve interests of all states, especially African and developing countries which are most affected by climate change.
