CEO of the Egyptian Space Agency (EgSA) Sherif Sedky said the launch of “Horus-2” satellite will help buttress Egypt’s 2030 vision for sustainable development as it contributes to better understanding of the surrounding environment in order to magnify the benefit of natural resources and attain the Sustainable Development Goals.
Egypt has successfully launched the “Horus-2” satellite from the launch base in northwest China, Sedky said, noting that this falls within the framework of the Egyptian-Chinese strategic relations.
In statements to the Egyptian TV Channel One, Sedky said Horus-2, which is part of remote sensing satellites, carries high-resolution imaging cameras on board to secure meticulous information about mineral wealth in addition to studying climate conditions.
Sedky added that the satellite will also help recognizing the best crops to be planted in Egypt and the best places for this in order to realize self-sufficiency of food and export the surplus.
