Araby: Green investments in Egypt meet 40% of environmental standards

President of the Egyptian Institute of National Planning (INP) Dr. Ashraf El Araby said green investments in Egypt met 40 percent of environmental standards and seeks to up this percentage to 50 percent next year while taking into consideration all sustainability standards.

He made the remarks on Tuesday during the 5th Forum on Strategies for Transition to Green Economy which is organized by CSR Egypt under the theme of Green DNA “Sustainable Finance and Impact Investment”.

He said Egypt was at the forefront of countries that adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), only five months after their launch by the United Nations.

Araby highlighted the role played by the Ministry of International Cooperation to support the achievement of  sustainable development which needs resolve to confront future risks.

He also commended the efforts exerted by the Planning Ministry to achieve the SDGs, especially through organizing training sessions to support all ministries and bodies concerned to abide by environment standards while implementing sustainable projects.

He added that the Egyptian Institute of National Planning managed to implement a national accounting project for calculating green GDP of all state projects, noting that the first stage was launched during the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) in collaboration with the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development.

The second stage of the program will be spearheaded soon, he said, noting that the institute will intensify environment-related training and efforts in the coming period in addition to buttressing environment projects of the private sector and women working in the domain.

He also announced that Arab development reports will be published next November on the fringe of the COP28 which will be held in the UAE.
