CEDARE regional manager: Suez Canal to become regional center for electric vehicles
By Marwa Nassar - -

Hossam Allam, Regional Program Manager of the Center for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe, Cairo (CEDARE), expected the Suez Canal would become a regional center for manufacturing electric vehicles (EV).

He said this goal could be attained through cooperation with Germany which is one of the pioneering states in manufacturing EV.

He made the remarks on Tuesday during “The Future of E-Mobility and Urban Planning in Egypt” conference which was organized by the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung in tandem with CEDARE and the Egyptian Ministry for Environmental Affairs.

The get-together was held under the theme of “EV Developments in the context of Sustainable Cities.”

Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad attended the event alongside German Ambassador to Egypt Cyrill Nunn and a cluster of experts and decision-makers.

Allam said “Egypt is deeply interested in adopting a sustainable electric transportation strategy.”

He added that the Administrative Capital represents an international model for achieving sustainable development programs through having eco-friendly transportation.

He expounded that the major challenge facing those in charge of planning was drawing up a strategy for this change to realize the utmost benefit.

Allam noted that the conference seeks to promote partnerships to realize progress in the clean transportation score in order to reduce air pollution and, hence, contribute to curbing climate change.
