Egypt is the first North African state to host the annual Africa Women Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum (AWEIF), one of the continent’s leading innovation and entrepreneurship events.

The 2022 edition of AWIEF – which is due to be held on 26 and 27 September in Cairo – is co-organized by the Egyptian Businessmen’s Association (EBA) and in partnership with Egypt’s Ministry of International Cooperation.

In the 8th year, the annual AWIEF conference brings together more than 1,300 entrepreneurs, start-ups, thought leaders, policymakers, international development partners, investors, CSOs, academia, and media for dialogue and discussions on issues of women empowerment, entrepreneurship, investing, technology, and innovation in Africa.

AWIEF 2022 – which will be held under the theme of “Advancing Africa through Gender Integration”provides a conduit to quality buyers from key multi-industry sectors gathered from across Africa and beyond.

Egyptian Minister of International Cooperation Rania Mashat said the event comes at an important timing in view of the importance of empowering women and promoting their economic role, especially in the entrepreneurship domain.

She added that the women issues come at the top of international discussions aiming to achieve sustainable development.

She referred to the ongoing cooperation between the ministry, the World Economic Forum and the National Council for Women through launching gender equality accelerator, noting that Egypt was the first country in Africa and the Middle East to launch the gender equality accelerator.

Mashat said she is looking forward that the conference would enhance joint action among the parties concerned to support national and regional efforts aiming at opening vistas for women’s participation in the march of development.
