Egypt’s GEM named best green building at EDF 2022

The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) won the Green Building Award (GBA) during the “Environment & Development Forum (EDF) 2022: The Road to Sharm El Sheikh Climate Change COP27” which was organized by the Arab Water Council in Cairo under the patronage of the Arab League.

During the event held on September 11-13, GEM General Supervisor Atef Moftah reviewed the museum’s strategies to achieve sustainability with its environmental, economic and social dimensions.

He spelled out the achievements realized in the museum to be an eco-friendly building, referring to using the solar cell systems in the parking area.

The GEM – located in Giza governorate – has copped four ISO certificates; ISO/PAS 45005:2020 for management of risks arising from COVID-19 to protect health, safety and welfare at workplaces; the ISO 45001:2018 for safety and occupational health, the ISO 14001 for environment management and ISO 9001 for quality systems.

He added that the museum sought to get certificates of green building and sustainability in collaboration with the Housing and Building Research Center and the results will be announced soon.
