Juhayna plans to reduce CO2 emissions by 31.8% by 2026

Juhayna plans to reduce emissions by 31.8% of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions by 2026, according to the second edition of the “Carbon Footprint” report.

The report – which was issued by Juhayna to track the greenhouse gas emissions from its activities – found out that the company was able to reduce emissions from each ton of its products by 9.3% compared to the base year.

The report presents the greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) resulting from the company’s various operations, ranging from farms and manufacturing to distribution and administrative headquarters, as part of its efforts to track and reduce its contributions from greenhouse gas emissions resulted in all its sites, in accordance with Goal No. 12 and 13 of the Sustainable Development Goals, which are responsible consumption and production and climate action.

The report revealed that the largest share of the total carbon emissions for the year 2020 was for the farm sector with 65% of the total emissions, and this included operations and activities on farms owned and non-owned by Juhayna, followed by manufacturing with 28%. The report indicated that emissions from warehouses, distribution centers and administrative headquarters are less than 10% of the company’s carbon footprint.

Passant Fouad, External Communication Director at Juhayna, said “Confronting climate change is common responsibility between every individual in society, so Juhayna pays great attention to achieving sustainable development goals, including Goal No. 13 “Climate Action”.

The company is always tracking the extent to which its activities are connected to achieving these goals, as part of its efforts to improve energy efficiency and reduce resource consumption in our various operations, while adopting renewable sources of energy and shifting to a circular economy.”

Fouad also added that the company was able this year to compare its business performance with respect to the base year to assess its progress in that framework.

She added that Juhayna always strives to preserve the environment and reduce any negative damages by all means and by using the latest technologies.

It is worth mentioning that Juhayna Company pursues a responsible investment strategy, especially as it is one of the largest producers of dairy and juices in Egypt. In this context, the company recently announced its cooperation with KarmSolar to establish a hybrid power plant to produce solar energy in the Abu Minqar area, as part of its efforts to rely on renewable sources of energy in its farms.
