Kabbaj:CSR Egypt-organized Green Economy Forum vital for COP27 preparations

Egypt’s Social Solidarity Minister Nivine Kabbaj said the 4th Forum on Strategies for Transition to Green Economy – which is organized by CSR Egypt – represented a national platform for those interested in climate change within the framework of preparations for the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) which is due to be held in Egypt’s Red Sea resort city of Sharm El Sheikh in November.

The forum was held in Cairo on Monday under the theme of “From Vision to Implementation.”

Kabbaj highlighted the importance of climate change file at the local and international levels.

“The COP27 represents a historical breakthrough and the start for handling climate change,” she said.

Kabbaj added that protecting the environment is not a luxury as it affects health, economy and even food, noting that the accumulating environmental problems have cast its shadow on food security.

She underscored the importance of just development for the poorest social classes, citing the ministry’s efforts in this respect.

She termed the current stage as “positive” in view of ongoing efforts to examine all challenges on the ground, referring to the development of an observatory for monitoring the efforts of the civil community and the private sector in addressing the climate change file.

She added that the Egyptian government has reviewed standards for transition to green economy and needed executive steps, referring to the government’s issuance of green bonds at $ 750 million to encourage investments in green economy.
