The National Bank of Egypt (NBE) spent about EGP 2 billion in 2020 within the framework of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities.

In a program aired on Extra News satellite channel, NBE Deputy Chairman Yehia Abul Fatouh said the bank is a leading bank in the CSR score, referring to the great role played by the NBE during the coronavirus crisis.

He added that the bank donated medical devices and personal protection equipment to many hospitals.

He noted that the bank absorbs about 34 percent of the market share of the Egyptian banking sector.

He said the number of the bank’s clients has reached 16.5 million, noting that the bank’s branches nationwide stood at 525 alongside 25 electronic branches.

The bank’s retail portfolio reached EGP 126 billion amid efforts to raise it to EGP 150 billion.

As for the efforts exerted by the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) during the coronavirus crisis, he said the CBE took major steps to support the Egyptian economy during the stalemate and this has positively affected the Egyptian economy and propped up the state’s efforts to flexibly deal with the fallout of the coronavirus crisis.

Egypt managed to realize positive growth despite of the crisis, he said, attributing this to the precautionary measures taken in 2016.

He noted that the bank has backed national projects and this led to creating jobs.
