Newly-established nine solar power stations will light for first time the Nubian temples in Upper Egypt, General Director of Abu Simbel and Nubian temples Ahmed Salah said.

The 5.4 million-pound stations were accomplished within the framework of the first stage of a plan for upgrading this archaeological site.

The first stage is expected to be finalized by the beginning of 2020 at about 20 million pounds. The development plan is bankrolled by the Nubian monuments salvage fund.

The development plan is meant to improve people’s standards of living and services in the area in addition to securing needed energy.

This outstanding archaeological area contains such magnificent monuments as the Temples of Ramses II at Abu Simbel and the Sanctuary of Isis at Philae, which were saved from the rising waters of the Nile thanks to the International Campaign launched by UNESCO, in 1960 to 1980.
