Telecom Egypt backs anti-COVID-19 “Himaya” initiative

Telecom Egypt (WE), Egypt’s primary telephone company, announced its support for the “Himaya” or “Protection” Initiative for backing needy people and daily wage workers in the face of the coronavirus (COVID-19) fallout.

The initiative was launched by Sona3 ElKheir Foundation – a charity foundation – and CSR Egypt under the patronage of Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli.

The company will contribute to the initiative through extending sanitizers to orphanages and nursing homes in various governorates.

Telecom Egypt’s support for “Himaya” initiative falls within the framework backing state efforts to confront the COVID-19 and alleviated the economic impact of the precautionary measures.

The company has engaged in several other initiatives over the past period to serve this end.

Telecom Egypt CEO Adel Hammad said “we are always keen to engage in such initiatives which buttress most needy social strata.”

He added “We are doing our best to reinforce state efforts to face up the COVID-19,” underlining the company’s social role under such emergency state.

Under the initiative, Telecom Egypt will donate about 500 boxes of personal protective equipment and sanitizers to be extended to nursing homes and orphanages.

The initiative focused on addressing the social and economic impact of the COVID-19.

At the economic level, the overture seeks to extend an EGP 500 as a monthly salary for temporary workers and daily wage workers for three months.

It also seeks to secure alternative jobs for those who lost their work due to the ongoing incidents.

The initiative also works on unifying efforts to reinforce the health sector and develop public and central hospitals of the Health Ministry.

The social goals of the initiative include extending foodstuff bags to most needy families who can be reached through depending on the database available at Sona3 ElKheir Foundation.

It also aims at spreading awareness among people via e-mails and social media about the importance of supporting poor people and taking into consideration all needed health precautionary measures. Within this context, personal protective equipment, including masks and gloves, were distributed among needy people and cleanliness workers to sensitize them about the importance of adhering to health measures to confront the pandemic.

More than 15,000 personal protective equipment boxes were prepared as a first stage. In addition, contracts were signed to get 200,000 tons of foodstuffs and 20 tons of fruits.

Moreover, Sona3 ElKheir allocated funds for any additional needs in the first stage.
