Egypt’s “green marathon” – which was held under the patronage of the Ministry of  Youth and Sports and the Financial Regulatory Authority – focused on enhancing the Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG3) on Good Health and Wellbeing.

The marathon – under the slogan “we run together for better environment and sustainable health” –  sought to encourage people to practice sports daily and change their lifestyle, especially through riding bicycles and eating healthy food.

The marathon – organized by the Insurance Federation of Egypt – fell within the framework of the green economy strategy which is one of the tools for achieving sustainable development which aims to improve people’s living conditions.

More than 2,000 workers in companies for insurance, healthcare, brokerage, others participated in the marathon.

Sustainability perspective in green marathon:

The organizer of the marathon – Insurance Federation of Egypt – was keen to ensure the sustainability of the event. Therefore, it was agreed with a specialized company to collect the plastic bottles used during the marathon to be recycled, thus reducing their negative impact on the environment.

The t-shirts and bags used during the event were made of sustainable materials.

Moreover, the event used sustainable papers for printing leaflets that can be recycled.

The role of the Insurance Federation of Egypt in sustainability:

It is worth mentioning that the Insurance Federation of Egypt collaborated with the Financial Regulatory Authority to lay down a sustainable insurance strategy for the Egyptian insurance market.

The federation also established a general committee for sustainable insurance which started preparing an Egyptian sustainability guide for insurance companies.
