Azerbaijan will contribute $1 million to support the scaling-up and sustainability of activities across the Global Education Coalition’s three flagships – teachers, connectivity, and gender.
The Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan has agreed to support UNESCO’s education response to COVID-19 through the Global Education Coalition under a deal inked in December 2021.
Over the next two years, this new partnership will support the ongoing capacity development of one million teacher trainers, teachers and education community leaders through the Global Teachers Campus’ digital skills and blended learning projects.
Azerbaijan’s contribution will also support the scale-up of activities by the Global Skills Academy, which is working to provide 1 million youth with the digital and employability skills to enter the labor market, as well as offer learning opportunities and remediation, particularly in the area of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics), to one million learners through the Global Learning House.
Stefania Giannini, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Education, thanked the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan for their generous contribution.
She said “This new partnership will be a game changer in the implementation of efforts by the Global Education Coalition, increasing the reach of much-needed activities and ensuring these are sustainable throughout the pandemic recovery.”
By helping map partners, strategies, and programs that could amplify the scalability of the three flagships, the contribution is also expected to strengthen coordination within the COVID-19 Global Education Coalition.
