Planning Minister Hala Saeed said EGP 350 billion was earmarked for the first stage of the national project for developing the Egyptian countryside “Decent Life“, highlighting that Faris village in the Upper Egypt governorate of Awan attained all the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The funds are channeled into implementing 23,000 projects in 1,477 villages in 20 governorates with beneficiaries estimated at 18 million people, she said.

Upper Egypt governorates swallowed almost 68 percent of the funds.

She added that the Decent Life projects meet the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

About 85 percent of the first stage was accomplished.

A total of EGP 15 billion were secured for offering loans for small and medium sized enterprises.

A report by the Planning Ministry highlighted the green village initiative that was spearheaded under “Decent Life” national project.

Upgrading villages under the Decent Life initiative is meant to get villages to cope with the up-to-date international environment standards of the World Green Building Council and obtain “rationalization certificate” for green communities.

The first stage included upgrading 20 villages to be green, the report said, noting that measures have been taken to qualify 19 villages to get the “rationalization certificate” for green communities.

Faris village in the Upper Egypt governorate of Aswan was the first Egyptian village to obtain the “rationalization”certificate in Egypt as it managed to achieve all the sustainable development goals.
